What they built [00:01:20] He built Zaal, a depth-first Socratic educational assistant. Educators upload course materials and define topics; Zaal uses retrieval-augmented generation grounded in that material to run Socratic conversations with students, producing depth assessments they can track over a semester via a radar chart across seven knowledge tiers (from surface facts to independent creation), plus targeted next-step feedback and an educator dashboard of cohort-wide performance indicators. What happened [00:05:25] In a live demo assessment, Zaal scored the user at 90% (18/20) correct on a Raman spectroscopy topic, correctly flagging targeted gaps for improvement. With the MVP complete, Arash lined up a first pilot with 10 students in a course the following semester and had already drawn early interest from the EU-funded Fortify photonics project.
